Ben Wendel's manuscript "A streamlined approach to antibody novel germline
allele prediction and validation". was accepted by Frontiers in Immunology on

Chad and Alex's manuscript on CD8 co-receptor
contribution to TCR and pMHC binding in human
viral-specific T cells was accepted on July 12th, 2017, by Frontiers
in Immunology. Congratulations!

May 5th, 2015, Congratulations to Amanda Meriwether for
receiving the 2015-16 Eva Stevenson Woods Endowed
Presidential Scholarship! The unrestricted
Endowed Presidential Scholarship is for $2,500 a
year and is one of the most prestigious
scholarships the University has to offer. Only 281
recipients were awarded this year from
approximately 2,335 students that met initial
qualifications and nominations from all UT
departments.
April 24th, 2015, Congratulations to Zhonghao Cui who has attended
the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
summer program at Northwestern University
International Institute for Nanotechnology!
Nineteen students experienced life of a scientific
researcher as well as opportunities to work with
world-renowned scientists. Each student submitted
a research paper for publication in Nanoscape-the
first professional, undergraduate journal of
nanotechnology. Participants also received
round-trip airfare, housing, and a stipend of
$4,500.
October 6th, 2015, Dr. Jiang is featured in a Q and A session with
the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas. They
interviewed Dr. Jiang on her research in breast
cancer vaccine development and immunotherapy. Read

Our lab was on TV! We were featured in the KEYE TV October breast cancer
awareness month news series aired on October
20th, 2015. During the interview, Dr. Jiang talked
about new opportunities for cancer immunotherapy
and early diagnosis. They interviewed Ben on his
training experience. Ben's tri-lab joint lab
meeting presentation and Shuqi and Chad's iTAST
experiment were featured in the report.
Dr. Jiang was invited to give a talk at the Nature conference: Immune
Profiling in Health and Disease at Seattle
on September 10th, 2015. Shuqi also presented his poster
on iTAST.
Jiang was invited to give a talk at the 11th International Conference on
Pathways, Networks, and Systems Medicine in
Chania, Crete, Greece, during Jun 24th to 29th,
2015.
Dr. Jiang was invited to give a seminar at the Department of Microbiology &
Immunology, UT Health Science Center at San
Antonio on May 14, 2015.
November 14, 2014, Dr. Jiang received the prestigious Damon Runyon-Rachleff
Innovation Award. The award provides support for
the next generation of exceptionally creative
thinkers with "high-risk/high-reward" ideas that
have the potential to significantly impact our
understanding of and/or approaches to the

November 14, 2014, Kevin was selected to attend the Cold Spring Harbor
Laboratory Single Cell Course to learn the most
recent cutting edge technologies for
characterization of single cells including RNASeq
and genomic analysis.
Dr. Jiang was invited to give a talk at the
Nature conference - Genomic Technologies and
Biomaterials for Understanding Disease at 2014 BIO
International Convention in San Diego, CA, June 23

February 12, 2013, Dr. Jiang's paper entitled "Lineage Structure of
the Human Antibody Repertoire in Response to
Influenza Vaccination" was published in Science Translational Medicine
. This is the first study of its kind and has
demonstrated the power of high-throughput
sequencing in profiling the human immune system.

Ben Wendel, a first year Chemical Engineering
Ph.D. student joined lab. Ben graduated from UC
Berkeley and will work on antigen specific T
cells.
Dr. Yang Liu joined the lab as a postdoctoral
scholar. Dr. Liu graduated from Zhejiang
University, Zhejiang, China and will be working on
antigen specific T cells in diseases.
Dr. Jiang attended the Cell Symposia - Human
Immunity on August 19 - 21 in Lisbon, Portugal.
She presented her recent work on studying human
antibody repertoire in response to influenza
vaccination using high-throughput sequencing.
Dr. Mingjuan Qu joined the lab as a postdoctoral
scholar. Dr. Qu graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong
University, Shanghai, China and will be working on
immune repertoire sequencing in vaccination and
cancer.
Dr. Jiang attended the Sixth Annual Division on
Aging Biology New Investigators Forum on June
19-21, 2012 in Bethesda, MD. She presented her
recent work on studying human antibody repertoire
in response to influenza vaccination using
high-throughput sequencing.
David Martin, a fourth-year BME undergraduate
student joined our lab. As a member of the
LIVESTRONG Texas 4000 for Cancer team, next summer
he will be biking from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska
to raise money and awareness for cancer research.
He is also a member of Beta Mu Epsilon- UT's
Biomedical Engineering honor society and the Sigma
Chi fraternity. David just returned from a month
long course on Transport Phenomena in Living
Systems at the University of Cambridge.
April 6th, 2012, Dr. Jiang's proposal entitled "Error-Free
High-Throughput Gene Sequencing" to the Welch Foundation was
awarded. This three year grant will fund research
aimed to reduce errors in using high-throughput
sequencing to study the immune repertoire.
Dr. Wu joined the lab as a postdoctoral scholar.
Dr. Wu graduated from Tongji University in
Shanghai China and was working on antibody-antigen
interaction through structure analysis at the
Shanghai Center for Bioinformation Technology.
July 27th, 2011, Dr. Jiang was selected as a Cancer Prevention and
Research Institute of Texas Scholar (CPRIT
Scholar). Dr. Jiang is one of the 28 scientists
who have been recruited to Texas through the CPRIT
Scholar program. The CPRIT Scholar in Cancer
Research program recruits exceptional researchers
to Texas universities and/or cancer research
institutions to enhance innovative programs of
excellence in the state by providing scientific
and programmatic support for promising first-time,
tenure-track faculty, as well as rising stars and
established outstanding investigators. More can be
